I just saw news that Shammi Kapoor has died. I thought of doing a tribute to him, but I don’t feel as though I am really qualified for the task (not at this moment, anyway). Shammi has made a huge contribution to Hindi cinema, and there are other people out there who are much more knowledgeable about that contribution than I could ever be. But I have certainly enjoyed his performances, and it was very sad to see this news. R.I.P., Shammi.

P.S. [Following afternoon]: As I expected, there are some touching words about Shammi to be found today at Memsaab’s.

He is going to be remembered forever as the man who gave us so much joy with his fun filled movies. The romantic songs he sang so soulfully for the leading lady warmed our hearts.
Dustedoff, agree with frowny face.
Ava, that’s a touching comment. But shouldn’t the soulful singing of those songs be attributed, at least in most cases, to Mohammed Rafi?
Yes, Mohammed Rafi sang them, but it was Shammi, with love in his eyes that brought them to life for us.
Nicely put!
His totally lovable personality was something so unique about him for which he was so well loved.
Really really sad about his passing away.
RIP dear Shammiji.
I’m ridiculously sad about it :( He was a wonderful guy.
