I had planned to do something for and on Indian Independence Day. But then a number of things happened, some very unfortunate (as you know). Anyway, for that post, I was going to focus on some film scenes from 1947, maybe a bunch of favorite songs, because that happens to be a year from which I have seen quite a few films and songs at this point, and I love much of the music that came out in 1947… But then I read Minai’s latest post on Kamala, and I recalled that there was only one film scene from 1947 that made for the perfect way to to observe the occasion. I have posted this clip before, but that’s OK – I should post it every year, on August 15! (By the way, the truly pertinent part starts at 05:36.)
For a Slightly Belated Happy Indian Independence Day

This song and dance could indeed be posted every year.
I don’t understand tamil, but love their rendition of classical music, and when there is dancing to go with it it becomes absolutely worthwhile and worthy of representing Independence Day.
It is particularly noteworthy, because I think the two dancers are the same and somehow they have been put together so that their dancing is perfectly synchroniized.
I may be mistaken though.
HI, Pacifist. Glad you agree about the “posting every year” part. Maybe I’ll do that from now on. :) And yes, that is two images of Baby Kamala/Kumari Kamala dancing “together.” :)
Always a lovely dance. It’s been a while since I’ve sat down and watched this one and I had forgotten how young she looks here! Coincidentally, guess who is featured on the latest issue of Sruti Magazine? http://sruti.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=300 Thanks for the reference to my post. Happy belated b-day India! :)
Thank you, Minai. And that’s perfect – Sruti Magazine had the same idea!
