  1. We may not have agreed, Richard, on Surendra – but I’m glad (and not surprised, considering some previous discussions on Facebook) for your love for Roti. That’s one film I admire tremendously – so far ahead of its time, and so absolutely unforgettable.

Talking of 40s films with a socialist bent to them, I do wish someone would subtitle Neecha Nagar (the last time I checked, it was freely available for viewing on Youtube, but no subs seem to be available anywhere). That’s another film I found mesmerising – and so very hard-hitting. Plus, of course, one gets to see Zohra Saigal as a young woman. :-)

  2. Yes, I certainly would like to watch Neecha Nagar with subtitles! I wonder if there could be a subtitled DVD anywhere… And, yes, it would be nice to see Zohra Sehgal as a young woman. On the other hand, it is pretty interesting to see her running around and giving interviews about her acting career at the age of 102.
