(“Tane Tandane Bhai Tane Tandane,” from Bindiya (1960), starring Padmini and Balraj Sahni; directors R. Krishnan and S. Panju; music director Iqbal Qureshi)
I like this song especially when the girls’ chorus starts, but it’s a fine tune overall. And what a great way to film a construction site! Almost makes me want to become a construction worker. (But, knowing a couple of construction workers and having once tried to help one of them on a job, I have to say…not really. Besides, I don’t think our construction sites in the present age look like this. I don’t know if any construction sites really ever looked like this, come to think of it.)
Watching this clip, I felt inspired to finally change my Padmini image header and replace it with… another Padmini image header. Though I had this picture stored for a while.
[Note four months later: This blog has had many Padmini image headers, because Padmini is the greatest. But as of the middle of February, the image header is Minoo Mumtaz and Padmini is on the lower right instead.]
The actor in this, Balraj Sahni, is someone I want to research more, in part because he obviously was a very interesting guy with interesting politics. But more on that another time…
Balraj Sahni was pretty interesting even apart from his politics and ideals! He has some really nice movies, too. But if its songs with him you are after you cant go wrong with Bhabhi and Anuradha! I need to find out more about Bindya – never knew about this Balraj Sahni movie.
