I just learned tonight that Abrar Alvi died last Wednesday. He was involved as a writer or director in some very fine films. Abrar Alvi RIP.
If you would like to contact me, e-mail to chardsinger [at] yahoo.com. I also have a Facebook timeline, where I have been spending too much time. (But it is only partially like this blog in terms of subject matter.) Anyway, especially if you know me somewhat, and you are on Facebook, you might want to connect there. Send an e-mail so that we can talk more about it and maybe exchange URLs to “friend.”
How did I miss this bit of news? :-(
That’s sad… Alvi was responsible for the screenplay/dialogue of some of my favourite films: Pyaasa, Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam, Mr and Mrs 55, Aar Paar, Professor. RIP.
Yes… And from what I’ve seen and read, I wouldn’t rule out the idea that he might have at least co-directed Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam too, even if it did have Guru Dutt’s “signature” all over it.
Oh, what a loss; one of the finest persons in Indian cinema.
And you have chosen two such poignant songs.
thanks for the post.
Oh, so sad. The people of the golden age of Indian cinema are all fading away. It breaks my heart.
Bawa, you’re welcome. And I’m glad you agree about the songs!
Stella_1, yes it is sad, but I am glad that the ones leaving us now stuck around as long as they did. At least Alvi lived a fairly long life. And Waheeda is still with us and still looks great (from the last clips I saw). It’s more sad to think about the fate met by some of the other people involved in these films.
