This year I entirely missed my favorite female singer’s birthday, not remembering it until my often-second-favorite female singer’s birthday. It’s still Lata’s birthday as I’m writing this, though not in the parts of the world where most of this blog’s readers are reading this. Oh, well.
Here are two sweet songs with Lata and Noor, respectively, singing under the direction of the great Ghulam Haider:
Two seemingly contradictory thoughts:
1. I want Shyama.
2. I am Shyama.
A nice clip about Kalpana (1948); it’s been out a couple of months, wonder why I never spotted it before. I wonder if Kalpana is still rotting in some Indian customs office. (That was the last I heard about it, after the great Cannes debut, according to articles found by Swarup and Minai. This film’s troubles never seem to end).
Manu J. Krishnan has extended an invitation for another special Travancore Sisters photo exhibition (this time happening on September 8 and 9), with funds going to awareness of breast cancer, the disease that took the lives of both Ragini and Lalitha. It is a beautiful invitation (and I wish I could make it to Kerala for this!):
P.S. For a fuller-sized copy of the invitation, go here.
